THE HAND OF GOD PART 2 OF 3

Not as good as the last issues but still a fun book.

I really like the character development that we have seen with Father Michael. The foreshadowing of the last issue has really paid off in a great way this issue. I am curious on how far they are willing to take him.

I was not pleased with how they have seemingly dumbed down Avengelyne. It was really not appealing to the character at all in my opinion.

Still a great book and I am sticking with it

This was suggested to me from one of the employees at the comic store I go to based on my love of the Kick-Ass series. I have never heard of it at all, but there seems to have had quite a run. There are 7 trade paperbacks from the series I believe.

I have no idea how anyone is into this. Usually when I read a new book, if I don't really like it, I will at first chalk it up to not understanding how everything works in the universe that I have just jumped into....Not this one. I mean, really, I get it. I just really don't like it.

It feels so completely over the top. From the heroes and villains(one of them literally has a super power of diamond hard nipples......Yes you read that right) to the very blatant political bias, this just felt like such a horrendous waste of my time.

DC NATION COMICS

Green Lantern The Animated Series #0
Team
Writer - Art Baltazar & Franco
Art - Dario Brizuela
Colorist - Gabe Eltaeb

This feels very similar to the Young Justice title...Everything from the art to the story that weaves in and out of the series..So I of course have no complaints with the format.

This is an all ages comic that is completely out of cannon. I see that the DC Nation imprint are putting out several titles with this format which include, Shazam, Batman Adventure, Justice League unlimited, Justice League Adventures, and it is continuing Batman Brave and the Bold, Tiny Titans and Young Justice. I think this is such a good thing. If they put forget about the kids, who continues the comic tradition later?

Anyways, back to the subject at hand....I actually like the inside artwork more than I like the TV show. 2 negatives that irritate me a bit, and I understand that this book doesn't count but.... As of yet, there are no human Red Lanterns. They also have free thought unlike the main series. I also feel that some sections of the book may be a bit too confusing for a lot of younger readers. We shall see after I let my kids read this.

All in all I think this was a great effort that hopefully keeps around for a while

I know that I said I was going to wait to buy any more of these until the trade paperbacks came out.....yeah, that just did not work out as well as I had planned.

The books are very very good and I just don't want to wait a year or so to read them.

I think that I am starting to figure out what is going on a little bit more, and perhaps I will soon be immersed enough into this little universe that I will have everything.

The art alone is good enough to keep reading

"GOODBYE CHINATOWN PART 3"

This book was so good that I literally had to stop myself from immediately going back to the first page and re-reading it.

This is the finale of the Chinatown story arc. If you haven't jumped on this title, hey, it's time to jump on.

I could see at least a couple of spin off series, or mini-series that I would like to see happen, although I know it is wishful thinking. They talked a little bit about how the Dragons inside of the earth have several factions and races that are at war with each other. That I would pay to read. I would also like to see what happens when Fat Cobra takes over as Black Dragon.. Not for a really long time but definitely as a Mini.

Looks like Logan will have even more connection to the Daily Bugle and Spiderman because his girlfriend is now working there.

Lots of seeds planted, can't wait to see what happens next

So, from what I understand, Marvel has cancelled Ghostrider(or at least this incarnation) as of this issue, due to very poor sales figures. I am sure it will be back by next year with Johnny Blaze back in the saddle, before the new Ghostrider movie hits this summer. I really don't think that people were able to swallow a female in the role. I think it may have just been a bad idea.

I would not call this a satisfying end to this book, but at least it did not leave anything up in the air.

This felt like one of the weaker stories so far. Although I will miss the character until he comes back, I think that Marvel did the right thing pulling the plug. If they want to lose Johnny Blaze, do it in the Ultimate Universe, like they did to Spiderman.

Another fun title from Daredevil. Most if it was just a fight between Daredevil and Bruiser, like the title promised.

Nothing really too new happened, but that is OK. It is just a title that leaves you entertained and happy. Not something that you would be used to if you had been a reader of DD in the past. I like it though.

My universe

I wanted to write about some of my other thoughts on things in my little corner of the geek universe.

Well first off, Happy Thanksgiving to my readers in the US. While we stuff ourselves silly, try to remember to be grateful that we live where we do and when we do. And be thankful that it is such a great time in history to be a geek

I started reading the book Inheritance by Christopher Paolini. Very good read so far. A bit more engaging that the last book, Brisingr but not quite as great as the first book, Eragon. I really hope that they reboot the whole franchise in film. The movie, Eragon was a huge turd. I would love to see the books brought to the screen in the right way. And Dragons are cool. I will be writing a review on it when I finish

Did you see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Yeah, not a fan....But, you know the guy that played all of the Oompa Loompas? He was in one of the best movies of my childhood. He was the guy that rode the racing snail in the original NeverEnding Story movie. Now just please, let the childlike Empress resurface somewhere

Watched Sons of Anarchy this week, as I do every week. I literally yelled out a cheer at the end when Opie shot Clay. I love that show so much.

Speaking of dramatic TV shows that I am digging. The Walking Dead. Yeah, it is pretty fantastic. It is a bit slow but definitely intriguing. Those people just cant keep anything to themselves though. Keep a stinking secret guys. Holy crap.

Snowboard season is upon us. LET US FALL! Can't wait to hit the slopes.

If you haven't heard, Jane's Addiction has Resurfaced with a
moderately good single called Irresistible Force. Not their best work but I still am enjoying the heck out of it.

Well that's about it for my Rambling

Peace

Comic Reviews for November 23, 2011

Just a little FYI for all of my loyal readers and friends. This week is actually going to be a mix of some of last weeks books intertwined with this weeks books. Last week was such a heavy reading week that I ended up putting some of them back on the shelf for this week because it was a smaller week this week.

There will be a few other changes happening in the next month that I shall keep you all posted about.

"DEATH BY COSPLAY"

What the hell else can they do to poor Dave? He has been beaten severely, shot, stabbed, been electrocuted by his balls, last issue his dad was sent to jail by taking the wrap for him.....Now this issue his identity is exposed and put out over Twitter, his dad is murdered in jail, the picture of his dads dead body is put out over the Internet and it goes viral, and finally when he goes to his fathers funeral, the M Fers blew up his casket, starting shooting up the place and kidnaps Dave.

However, we do have some good news..........HIT GIRL IS BACK!!!!! And she is pissed. The last page almost gave me chills.

I am also really liking how they are starting to set up MFer(formerly Red Mist) up for a severe hurting. You discover that he has been actually protected by the police, but now that will be coming to a screeching halt. I want him to die painfully at this point. Millar has done such a good job of turning him from a goofy stoner with daddy issues, into a truly evil POS that it is fun to hate

I know this comic is a lot of peoples guilty pleasure, and you don't have to admit that you mark out to the gratuitous violence, but I will admit it proudly. This book just gets better and better. I really hope that Mark Millar gets inspired to write a Kick-Ass 3 after this story wraps.

"PART THREE"

The first few pages of this were just amazing...But unfortunately that was just not meant to last.

As you may remember from last issue, Kyle ended up wearing every ring at the same time. Then he just started messing up all of the guardians. This goes on for a while till the rings start to disengage themselves. No non immortal could ever hope to harness all of this power. All of the rings end up disappearing except for two. The green ring, which no one could get off of Kyles finger and the Orange ring.

We discover that the Orange ring is not the Orange ring at all but just a Construct from the Orange Lantern. We discover that Orange Ring Constructs are sentient and can actually think for themselves.

Then we get the one thing that everyone that has been following all of the spectrum corps for a while have been wanting to see.....Larfleeze is back baby!

I really want to read the next few issues together because I feel like these issues are never long enough. I don't know if that is a good or a bad thing right now.

I am giving this one more week. I still am kind of liking the Jonah Hex stuff, but the other story, El Diablo, feels like such a waste of my time.

I am actually taking a lot of interest in Deadman. He is such a dick. I like him.

I have such little experience with all of the characters that it can be a little difficult to follow this at times. However, I really enjoy trying to figure it all out.

"BETTER TO BURN OUT THAN TO FADE AWAY"

Another really great issue for Teen Titans. I am so glad I jumped on this book when I did at the relaunch.

We get a really good look at two of our new team. Bunker, a Christian gay Mexican that can build stuff with his mind all made out of purple (stereotype much?) and Solstice. Not really sure about Solstice's powers yet, but she can read minds and fly.

Red Robin's wings are one of the coolest things I have seen in a comic book honestly.

I am still liking Kid Flash more and more since my rough first impression of him in the first issue. Hope they change his uniform soon.

I am really looking forward to seeing more about this Skitter character.

I almost didn't pick this one up. I went in with every intention to cancel this off of my pull list and never read it again, I just forgot to pull it out and say I didn't want it... Lucky.

This one came out of nowhere and really floored me.

There was really 2 stories going on. The main story shows our 3 anti-heroes going into a strange place to retrieve a clue...It looked like it was pulled out of the Sandman universe. So much so that I thought we would be getting a cameo(didn't happen..bummer)

The second story had the gatekeeper going though their most treasured memory. Red Hoods memory was when he was Robin. He was sick and Bruce and Alfred would not let him go out on patrol. Jason sits in front of the TV and sulks. Bruce then comes back in, still wearing his batsuit, sits next to him and lets him fall asleep as they are watching TV together.

Who were the bastards that voted to kill him in the 90s?

Dammit dammit dammit!

I like this book. Unfortunately I have too many on my pull list...So unless I win the lottery, I will be waiting for this book in trades. That is the other bad news. DC seems to be waiting about a year to put out trades with the new 52.

Do yourself a favor, unless you can swing another book, do not buy this. It is way to interesting. Hopefully I can start pulling the back issues when there is a sale.

As usual, this is fairly good storytelling, but the real star of this book is the art. It is everything I love about comic book art. Maybe it is way too gory for art I would hang on my walls but it is, in my very humble opinion, perfect Comic art.

The writers are, quite honestly pervs. Love gore and have a very dark sense of humor. I never said I don't love it. Perhaps I relate a little too much....LOL (wow, did I really just LOL in a blog. Sorry, I will try my best to never let it happen again.)

This is a fun title. True, it my be offensive to some people, but its just a comic book. Of course it is not for children, but if you were to buy, or let your child buy this comic after seeing the cover, it is time to be a parent and start figuring some stuff out..

Anyways, I will get off my soapbox. This book would have to put out some seriously horrible stories to get me to jump off. I am in!

Boom! is doing a line of comics for this election, telling you about the candidates. They include, Obama, Paul, Huntsman, Cain, Bachmann, Palin, Romney and Perry (WTF. Where is Gingrich?)
This is an interesting concept.

Now if you know me, you know I am actually a huge supporter of Ron Paul, so I was excited when I say this on the shelves.

To start, it wasn't the most exciting thing that I have ever read, but it wasn't bad at all. The art, on the other hand, was really poor.

This is a great campaign tool, and might have to get my hands on all of these issues of all of the candidates.

I like that this book was not colored to make anyone look particularly better, or to trash other candidates.

Hopefully, these may help people actually get more informed decisions and motivate people to vote, no matter who they choose.

"CAPITAL PUNISHMENT"

My first impression is that the art seems to have taken a huge turn for the better. Venom is looking a bit more like the Punisher now.

In the beginning, it looks like the Symbiot has taken complete control of Flash in his anger of seeing a tank kill a mother and small child.

He finds the guy, tortures him, then kills him. I really like to see characters that will do this. It rarely happens in the DC universe like that, but it needed to happen.

This book felt way too short. It felt like it was about 10 pages long. Just went way too fast. This book is quickly moving back up to the top of my stack

So Avenging Spiderman will be a team up book. Apparently he will be teaming with someone new every few issues. This issue it is Spidey teaming up with Red Hulk. Honestly, I know nothing about Red Hulk, but I would like to after reading this. He seems very intriguing to me.
I realized how far from the Spider Universe I am. J.Jonah Jamison is a Mayor or something? WTF? I really should catch up on some of this.. Anyone wanna fill me in?

I usually don't like the sketch-y type line work, but it is not too much and fits the book.

This also comes with a free digital copy of the book. That is the only way Marvel or DC should be charging 4 bucks for a book. But that may just be me.

I think I'll be sticking with this title

"Force of Will"

The cover was absolutely beautiful to start with.

This book feels a lot more interesting to me than the last two issues of this title. As it goes, I am beginning to care a lot less about Guy and John, our two earth lanterns, and caring more about the Corp in general. It feels a lot more like a team book that a GL book starring Guy and John. It just feels good all the way around

It is a great cliffhanger ending, which is kind of the point a great serial comic in my opinion. I personally don't see how they are going to get out of this situation without a lot of fatalities. I definitely want to see where they take this.

I am finally interested in the bad guys in this book. It has felt very bland to me but now, with the discovery that they are supercharged with Will, it feels a lot cooler. I want to know who and how this happened. It makes me wonder if they are the new creation of the Guardians that was mentioned in Green Lantern #3. Possible but I just don't know.

I am more interested in getting to know more about a few of the characters that we got semi acquainted with this issue, namely Sheriff and Porter(if he is not dead).

"No one can find any piece of me here"

The cover here looks just great. It really sets the tone for what you might expect after last issue when Selina's closest friend is brutally murdered. You just know she is going to go out with a vengeance and mess some stuff up.

This again does not disappoint. A lot less of the sexualized nature in this issue, but it would have felt out of place if it would have been thrown in.

Again a great cliff hanger. it looks like she may be finally caught. In her grief, she is letting her instincts slip. I hope it will be explored a bit in the next few issues so that it can lay the groundwork for things to haunt her for a very long run.....but that may just be me.

Batman seems to be a constant feature in this book and gets a lot of panel time. At first, it was kind of bothering me but because I have dropped most of the Batman books except for Batman & Robin, I don't feel like I am burnt out on him anymore. I think it is just enough of him honestly

Well to start with, I have a negative. The art, while it is good, is jarring because of the amounts of artist working on this book. You can see where the artists change. It took me out of the story quite a bit unfortunately.

The story is still going very well. I am very glad that they did not end up killing Saiko because I think he will be a great recurring villain. I am uber interested in what his story is. A lot of potential there I think.

There is a lot more of Dick confronting his past. While it is interesting for now, I hope that it does not continue past past this arc, because the past can only go so far.

I don't see Dick keeping the Circus after this story arc. We shall see.

"Part Three"

Another Great Justice League Cover. A little bit from everyone on the team that we have so far been introduced to. A little too busy perhaps but still very nice to look at with plenty of "curb appeal"

The art is always stunning in these Justice League books. I would almost say that it is the best art in the DC Universe.

I have not ended up picking up the Wonder Woman book since the relaunch...or ever really, but if she is written the way she is written in this book, it would be worth checking out. I really like her attitude and just general look and feel.

I have just been ok with this book so far and I have not understood why people are so enamored with this title. After this issue, I do understand. I am still not super excited that this book is $3.99 , not at the "drawing the line and $2.99" that DC was so amped on not too long ago. Now that I have seen this book at this level, I will not complain. However, if it drops with the excitement that it has set the bar with on this issue, it will be on the chopping block. I hope DC does something about it.

They are really pushing Cyborgs origin in this book. Honestly it is getting exciting for me.

I actually did like the appearance or Aquaman as well. Never really been a fan of his but he just stuck me a very cool and his moment of appearance was great.

I like how some of the relationships are already forming in the team. Batman, of course, seems like he will have the most conflict so far.

Because of the wait between books, I felt very lost when I started. I am not a big fan of the matrix/inception type story lines, but this has not been too bad. In a very unique marketing move, that I don't feel is being properly exploited. When you buy this comic, you get a code for a song written by the writer of this book, Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine. The track from this book is mostly a Backing Soundtrack for while you read the book.

I am really liking her being so unsure of herself but I don't know how long that can go on and still stay interesting. I do trust Gail Simone to take us on a fantastic journey though and she is doing a good job so far.

Another great issue. I am so glad I decided to keep this as my main Batbook.

So Batman is protecting this Robin so much more than he has ever protected the other three. Because Damian is his son, it may be clouding his view and I think it is a good thing for Bruce... but is killing Damian inside. That is the main reason I think that Damian had such a great relationship and grew so much under Dick Grayson when he was under the cowl, because Dick treated him the way a Robin is supposed to be treated.

Damian is getting his clock cleaned in this issue and hopefully when he and Batman come out of this, will strenghten them both as a team when Damian realizes he doesn't have all of the awnsers and Bruce realizes he can't hold too tight of a leash on him.

On the Run from the Sinestro Corps

Oh..My...Goth. Where do I begin with this? Before I go into details, I will say that this may be THE BEST GREEN LANTERN BOOK I HAVE EVER READ!

Ok, there are about to be major spoilers. I realize I almost always do spoilers but I really hope everyone picks this one up.

There were 2 major reveals and a few less major reveals as well. The first big one comes from the Guardians. They talk about how the Manhunters had Faults. Then they created the Green lantern Corps but they had Faults as well. Now they have decided that they will now create a third Army. I think that this may just tie into the New Guardians. I could see how they may have put it all into motion and want to have a full spectrum force....But that is just my speculation.

The next big reveal happens at the end when Sinestro sends Hal into the main power battery for the Yellow Lanterns to destroy the source of the Sinestro Corps power. When Hal enters, he is disintegrated. It looks like it was not an intentional act by Sinestro. I don't know where they are going to go with this as all, but I want to know.

We are still in Italy, and I am pretty sure that is where we will remain for the entire Mini-series run.

This feels like it is paced at just the right speed. Very nice balance between action and storyline

Mad Dog on the Hunt

Not quite as excited about this title as I have been. There is nothing wrong with it, and it is still a lot better than a lot of the stuff out there, but this just didn't feel like as much fun.

Harley Quinn really stepped out as a white trash goddess. Honestly, I really can't get enough of her as a character. So smart and sexy but rolled into a huge roll of psycho.

Nice character development for Deadshot this issue. He is becoming more and more of a memorable character to me.

I don't really know if I am happy about the two new additions to replace Voltic(who died last issue) and Spider(caught in the middle of an explosion...He may make it if the government doesn't kill him in the hospital). The replaements are Yo-Yo(I have no idea who he is) and Captain Boomerang(one of the more famous villians from the Flash). Waller has given the entire team to Boomerang to be the leader by giving him the remote to blow up anyone on the team that disobeys him. I personally think that it is a rouse and that the remote does nothing.

So this new Ghost Rider, Alejandra, is begining to grow on me. I still hate her using a Goldwing while she is the spirit of Vengence, but I can overlook it.

It was a one and done issue, which means they will be setting up a new story arc very soon. The last one was begining to feel a bit stale to me so that is a good thing

I am still enjoying the character of Ghost Rider and probably always will. Its great when you can love a character, reguardless of the current story arc, or even a change of character taking over the mantle

Goodbye, Chinatown Part 2

While this was not at all a bad week, I felt like it was much less charming than last issue.

We have one more issue in this story arc and then we will have Wolverine back on the East Coast.

Not much to really say in this. Kind of a forgetable issue but still fun
