Podcasts

I don't know how many of you are into Podcasts but they have been an obsession of mine for a few years now. Basically what they are is usually professionally done amature(ish) talk radio that talk about whatever interest you can imagine. It is self governed so they can range from Profane and perverse all the way to squeaky clean. My first show I started following about 5 years ago is called Keith and the Girl.(@katg on twitter or www.Keithandthegirl.com) Although they rarely have much comic related, it is most definitely worth checking out if you are not easily offended
Anyways, I thought I would give a quick rundown of some of the comic related Podcasts that I really enjoy and are great resources.

Raging Bullets(@RagingBullets on twitter or Http://ragingbullets.com) This is a really good all DC comics podcasts. The hosts are very positive and you very rarely hear a negative review. The hosts are very passionate about comics. They absolutely love them. They have a very serious
obsession with Gail Simone (@gailsimone on twitter), but that is ok. She is a fantastic writer indeed.

These Podcasts usually come out once a week. They can be very long episodes, usually around the 3 hour mark but the hosts never feel like they are rambling on and it feels a lot shorter than it is.

I usually listen to this one at work if I happen to be in a location that I can listen to my iPhone.

Grade A

iFanboy Pick Of The Week Podcast(@ifanboy on twitter or www.ifanboy.com) The premise of this show is that there are three different hosts and they all rotate each week who gets to do, in their individual opinions, what is the best comic of the week which is the Pick Of The Week. They will then discuss it at length. They then go over some more books, usually Marvel or DC (but not necessarily stuck to the big two) and give their reviews. They also discuss the Fans picks of the week that people can vote for on their website.

The show usually comes in at about an hour, which feels perfect for their format.

Comic Vine Podcast(@comicvine on Twitter or www.comicvine.com) I am very new to this podcast and am only 2 episodes in, but it did impress me enough that I wanted to give it a shout on this post.

I really like the way that conversation is weaved into all of the reviews so heavily, it is almost seamless and it feels like a conversation with friends. They talk movies, comics and general geek culture in the same breath, with it feeling pandering.

This is the only podcast mentioned (other than Keith and the Girl which really doesn't count) that features a female on the mic, and she seems to know what she is talking about and is not there just for the female demographic.

These episodes seem to be at about the 2 hour mark. I like to listen to them when I am driving in traffic. Its actually does pull me out of the irritation of rush hour traffic.

Grade A

Comic Geek Speak(@comicgeekspeak on twitter or www.comicgeekspeak.com) I think this and ifanboy were the first 2 comic podcasts that I started listing to and I am still with them both. Lots of comedy intertwined in their comics conversation.

They have 3 review categories which are Buy, Borrow or Pants(drop). They are not afraid to give a negative review to anything. There is very rarely a unanimous view on the comics between the hosts, but that is ok because they do back up what they say and really do give their opinions. There is no spoon feeding you on this podcasts. All of the hosts have very different personalities. Its a lot of fun

Shows usually come in between an hour and a half and 2 hours. It has been around 1140 episodes at the time of this writing and my guess is that it is not losing any steam and should be around for a long long time more

Grade A

Bagged and Boarded(@CamelToad on twitter or www.cameltoadproductions.com) This is a Podcast for the mature listener. I heard about it for the first time because it is part of the Kevin Smith Smodcast family of podcasts.

It is not a review show of the latest books but it is a conversation with a guy that is a comic/video game/geek lifestyle type person. It is incredibly entertaining. He can go between comic writers, to his friends to porn stars.

I honestly do look forward to hearing this show every week when it comes out. Lots of fun

Shows come in between one and 2 hours. It goes very quick

Grade A

The Podcast of Oa(@BlogofOa on Twitter or www.blogofoa.com) This is an all Green Lantern Podcast that came out of the Blog of Oa website that is dedicated to all new news relating to the Green Lantern Website.

This is a fun listen if you are really into all things Green Lantern past and present but is not for everyone.

I personally love this one but you should check out the site and take a listen and decide for yourself
